Our
origins - the Boileau name
is taken from the prominent French Huguenot family who originated from
‘Castelnau’ near Nimes and whose history can be traced back to 1255.
In approximately 1700, Charles Boileau, son of the 10th Baron, fled from
France following the religious persecution which followed the Edict of
Nantes and eventually he settled in Barnes. He had 16 grandchildren, all
of them sons and one of these, John Peter, received a Peerage in 1838 and
maintained a home in Barnes until his death.
The Boileau Family were responsible for the construction of many of the
most interesting properties in the area including the Regency style houses
at the foot of Castelnau and it was in celebration of the family that the
main thoroughfare, formerly known as Bridge Road, was renamed Castelnau.
Jeremy Boileau Wright, a Partner in this Firm, is a descendant of Charles
Boileau and his Father and Grandparents were all born and lived in the
Barnes and Mortlake area.
